Evaluation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by conventional methods, GeneXpert and line probe assay in cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis

Background: Diagnosis of EPTB is often delayed due to its paucibacillary nature. Diagnostic modalities like conventional methods and molecular GeneXpert are employed for Mycobacteria detection their results compared. Line Probe Assay used determination resistance in first line second anti-tubercular drugs. Methods: In this study 302 extrapulmonary samples from suspected cases all age groups were included. Samples homogenised decontaminated then subjected various diagnostic microscopy, culture detection. Culture smear positive isolates LPA drug second-line Results: Out the samples, maximum lymph nodes (19.86%) followed by pus (17.88%). Male female ratio was 1:3. detected 45.04% 5.96% rifampicin resistant. Positive microscopy 21.19% 24.17% respectively. When compared culture, showed a sensitivity 86.30% specificity 99.56%. reported 100% 72.48% specificity. 9.45% isoniazid resistant cases, 4.05% 5.40% both (MDR-TB). MDR-TB 25% fluoroquinolones indicating pre-XDR TB. Conclusions: For Mycobacterium tuberculosis multiple should be so that bacilli these not missed turn-around time lowered which key TB control strategy.
